Many professional societies around the world are devoted to the science of physiology. Collectively, these societies and their members continue to advance our understanding of physiological principles at all levels of organization – ranging from molecular physiology to organismal physiology. Physiological societies are also the keepers of physiological knowledge and the history that has led to the current state of knowledge. All physiological societies are committed to providing strong mentorship and training to the next generation of physiologists. The following is a short list of professional societies concerned with the science of physiology. Many of these societies have annual meetings, which see strong participation not only by their local members but also by international physiologists. Joining one or more of these societies is a great way to become involved and remain abreast of new developments in physiology.
